Wealthy heirs

Earlier this year, the daughter of Rock and Roll legend Elvis Presley died. Lisa Marie left her three daughters estate Graceland and the museum in Memphis, among other things. Still, not much remained of the inheritance-about €81 million-that she once received from her father. Those who could count on a decent amount, however, are the heirs of these wealthy families. Who are these? MASTERS lists them.

Walton Family

The Walton family is one of the wealthiest families in the world. Retail giant Walmart was founded in 1962 by Sam Walton. The founder died in 1992 at the age of 74. The family fortune is divided among members of a total of three generations, including Sam's three children: Rob, Jim and Alice. Currently, the siblings' wealth is estimated at about €54 billion each. Fun fact: If all Walmart employees lived in one city, it would rank fourth among cities with the most residents in America. The chain has more than 11,000 physical stores worldwide.

Charles and David Koch

In the early twentieth century, father Fred Koch started the family empire with oil trading. Although Koch Industries is an American multinational, the family genealogy can still be traced back to the Frisian town of Workum. Son Charles worked with his brother in the company until recently. After David's death, widow Julia inherited 42% of the shares in the family business. Her wealth, like Charles Koch, is estimated at about €55 billion.

Axel Dumas

Best known for its silk scarves and Birkin bags, Hermès was founded in 1837 in Paris. At the time, the company was suppliers of saddles. As nobility stopped going on horseback in the late 19th century, son of founder Emile-Maurice introduced suitcases and bags, among other products. In 1920, Hermès expanded its offerings to include watches, jewelry and home decorations. Meanwhile, Axel Dumas -- part of the sixth generation of the Hermès-Dumas family -- headed the French fashion house. Dumas became heiress to €30 billion.

Mars Family

The Mars family is an American family that owns the eponymous confectionery company Mars Inc. Jacqueline and John Mars, grandchildren of founder Frank, currently have assets of about €35 billion each . Jacqueline worked for the business for nearly 20 years and is still on the board of directors. However, the company is now primarily run by the children, now the fourth generation.

Wertheimer Brothers

Brothers Alain and Gérard Wertheimer currently co-own Chanel. The brothers' grandfather, Pierre Wertheimer, met Gabrielle Coco Chanel and became her business partner in 1924. Pierre financed manufacturing and distribution, but eventually became full owner of the brand. The Wertheimer brothers inherited the shares of the fashion house. Alain 51% and Gérard 49% . The two's wealth today is estimated at €34 billion.
