Under the hammer: most valuable, new car

MASTERS, in "Auction Pearl of the Week," searches each week for unique objects that disappear under the hammer. This week the Bugatti Chiron Profilée. The specimen fetched a record amount in Paris last week. It knocked a LaFerrari Aperta off its throne as the most expensive new car ever auctioned.
Bugatti

The Bugatti Chiron was first shown to the world in March 2016 as a worthy successor to the Veyron. Although 500 units of the Chiron were eventually produced, the Chiron Profilée is a one-off. The larger air intakes, a larger grille, an integrated rear spoiler and the unusual color scheme Argent Atlantique makes the Profilée indeed different from other Chirons. Also, its top speed, of 380 kilometers per hour, is just slightly higher than the Chiron Pur Sport. At the same time, according to RM Sotheby's, the bolide is simultaneously the last Bugatti with a W-16 engine.

No second-hand

The auction by auction house RM Sotheby's took place in Paris. The hammer finally fell at a sum of €9,792,500. Never before has so much been paid for a new car at auction. Still, the bolide does have some miles on the odometer, 396 to be exact. But Bugatti guarantees that it is not a pre-owned car. We should expect that for a modest €10 million.... Especially when you consider the additional fuel costs; the average fuel consumption of the Profilée is 1 to 4.
