Doing your part to help Ukrainians? Here's what you can do

The situation in Ukraine means there is an urgent need for food, shelter, medical care and clean drinking water. To help Ukrainians you can do the following things, among others.Text: Patrick Stoffer

Book an AirBnB in Ukraine

To help Ukrainians directly, stays are booked en masse in Ukrainian cities. When you book a stay, you obviously won't be staying there. But with this you can support the Ukrainian owners financially and it is a good, creative way to help people directly.

Donate to Giro555

Giro555 raises money in exceptional humanitarian disasters, collects and shares information about disaster areas and reports on how donations have been spent. Such is the case with the situation in Ukraine. Giro555 distributes the money raised to participating relief organizations, such as the Red Cross, Oxfam Novib, UNICEF Netherlands and Stichting Vluchteling. They use this money for emergency relief and reconstruction in Ukraine, such as providing food, shelter, clean drinking water and medical care. Go to the Giro555 website for more information and donation.

Get sponsored

Do you like running, cycling or any other activity? Set yourself a goal and get it sponsored by friends, family or businesses to raise money for Ukraine. For example, you can set up an action through the Giro555 website to raise money individually, with friends, sports team or colleagues. You can also join an existing action. Join now here.

Offer shelter to

Do you have space in your home and would like to open your home to Ukrainians? Then you can register as a host family to receive people who are urgently looking for shelter. You can find all the information about what this involves and how to sign up through the Dutch Refugee Council Foundation.

Become a volunteer

Meanwhile, many people have fled and the Netherlands is ready to offer protection to Ukrainians. VluchtelingenWerk is ready in every asylum seekers' center in the Netherlands with a team of staff and volunteers to welcome refugees during this difficult and emotional time. Would you like to lend a helping hand? Then sign up here.

Collect items

Actions are set up throughout the country where items are collected for those in need. Think of clothes, blankets, diapers, medication and much more. So here you can find a map of the Netherlands with the location of many collection points and here an overview with other ways you can help.
