Invest In Our Planet

Earth Day takes place every year on April 22 to denounce the environmental problems we face today. The first edition took place in 1970 and was created by American environmentalist Gaylord Nelson after an oil spill hit Santa Barbara in 1969.

The theme of Earth Day 2022 is "Invest In Our Planet. This calls on governments and businesses to invest in a better future for the planet. This year there is also a particular focus on sustainable fashion, with Earthday.org launching a petition calling for change within the industry as well as legislation.

Exhibition

The TextielMuseum in Tilburg's new exhibition 'Kleurstof' shows the origins of dyes and the impact it has on people and the environment. The work of various artists and (fashion) designers, including Claudy Jongstra, Antonio José Guzman, Nan Groot Antink and Aboubakar Fofana, among others, gives visitors a glimpse of the beauty and dilemmas of dyed textiles. For example, new work will be presented by Claudy Jongstra, who is known for her expertise in plant-based dyeing. For the museum, the artist takes on the challenge of creating a fabric where all steps in the making process take place locally.

On the occasion of the exhibition, the museum has also created a Dye Plant Garden. You will discover in the garden which plants can be used to dye textiles.

The exhibition Dye will be on view October 2, 2022 at TextielMuseum Tilburg.
