These temporary exhibits are worth a visit

Museum and art lovers can once again enjoy a number of special, temporary exhibitions. From the grandest Vermeer exhibition ever to the most extraordinary works by Salvador Dalí that have been given a new (light) look. These (temporary) exhibitions are asking to be visited.

Largest Vermeer exhibition at Rijksmuseum

When: from Feb. 10 to June 4, 2023

For the first time in its history, the Rijksmuseum is hosting an exhibition on the 17th-century master Johannes Vermeer. With at least 28 paintings from around the world, this promises to be the largest Vermeer exhibition ever. Leading up to the exhibition, research was conducted into Vermeer's life and artistry, his artistic choices and motivations for his compositions, as well as the process of creating his paintings.

Rembrandt & Contemporaries at Hermitage Amsterdam

When: Feb. 4 to Aug. 27, 2023

A unique opportunity to be able to admire art from a private collection. That doesn't come around very often...especially when those works return for once to the place where they were conceived and created four centuries ago. Rembrandt & Contemporaries is showing 35 paintings from The Leiden Collection, an extraordinary private collection from New York. You will see the works of the greatest history painters of the 17th century, such as Rembrandt van Rijn, his teacher Pieter Lastman, his pupils Carel Fabritius and Arent de Gelder, as well as contemporaries. Think Jan Lievens, Frans van Mieris and Jan Steen.

Byblos at National Museum of Antiquities in Leiden, Netherlands

When: Oct. 14 to March 12, 2023

Byblos is an exhibition on the world's oldest port city in Lebanon, featuring five hundred objects, including masterpieces from the National Museum of Beirut, the Louvre, the British Museum and the American University of Beirut Archaeological Museum. From 3000 B.C. onward, Byblos played an unprecedented role in the Mediterranean and Middle East, in part through the trade in cedar wood. A fishing village inhabited since 6500 B.C. grew into a prosperous city and became the world's first international seaport. Egyptians, Assyrians, Babylonians, Phoenicians, Greeks and Romans left their mark there.

Kees van Dongen - Singer Laren

When: from Jan. 17 to May 7, 2023

How did the young artist Kees van Dongen manage to break through in Paris and in a short time become one of the most famous artists of the twentieth century? This question is central to the exhibition Kees van Dongen. On display at Singer Laren.

Dalí - Gaudí - Recoding Entropia at Fabrique des Lumières

When: as of March 10, 2023

Starting March 10, the doors of Fabrique des Lumières will reopen and the artworks of artists such as Salvador Dalí and Antoni Gaudí will light up. These immersive exhibits will show the artists' most beautiful and famous works coming to life. There will also be an immersive audiovisual experience on display; Recoding Entropia.
