Imre van Opstal | MASTERS #43

As children, they collected autographs from the dancers of Nederlands Dans Theater and imitated choreographies of the Hague dance company in the living room. Their dream was to one day represent NDT themselves. That dream came true for Marne (1990), Imre (1989) and their eldest and youngest sister. How special: four children from one family who were the only Dutch people to be part of the international group. Marne, who became the figurehead of NDT, terminated his contract this year; Imre did the same with the Israeli Batsheva Dance Company. Together they continue as a choreographer duo. MASTERS visited the pair in The Hague, where Imre temporarily lived with her brother.

Karsu | MASTERS #44

Her goal was not to become a musician. “I remember very clearly standing on stage in Carnegie Hall and receiving a standing ovation. I looked into the room and thought: you can't afford not to do anything with this.” And did she do anything with it! Four albums, sold out halls everywhere, an Edison: the world at her feet! MASTERS spoke to Karsu Dönmez (Amsterdam, 1990) a day after her intimate performance in College Hotel.
