Aptera's goal? Developing the most efficient car in the world. In 2020, the company showed its concept to the general public. The final specifications of the production model were announced at the beginning of this year. MASTERS does not want to deprive you of this example of sustainable innovation.
The American start-up Aptera Motors has been developing its three-wheeled solar car for a number of years. Although the company is currently working to secure financing for production, it presented the “Launch Edition” at the beginning of this year.
Aptera's Launch Edition comes with an integrated solar charging system that will allow most people to drive for weeks or even months without having to plug in to charge. At least, if you are based in sunny California, just like the start-up. In locations with average sun exposure, drivers should plug in about three times a year.
With its characteristic shape and extremely light body, the car consumes a quarter of the energy compared to electric and hybrid vehicles. The solar cells are integrated wherever possible. Not only on the roof, the front and tailgate but even on the dashboard. This does not save on driving range. The Launch Edition would have a range of about 643 kilometers. So you can get big ones here roadtrips to experience. Especially when you look at the extras that can be added. How about a tent, for example?
Aptera plans to start production at the end of 2023 and then quickly scale up to an annual output of 10.000 vehicles per year.
