MUST HAVES FOR THE WATER

Yachts and boats with a length of less than 24 meters have a wide variation; from flying catamarans to cruisers and from schooners to Batman-like hydroplanes. Below is a Top 5 of the most beautiful yachts and boats.

39ben

Never before has it been possible to sell so many copies of a sailing yacht through pre-registration. Thanks to the different design - especially the fixed hood for the cockpit and the receding bow stand out - in combination with a cool color scheme, the 11,99 meter long 39 BEN on no other yacht. The German youngsters who introduced 'little brother' Bente 24 two years ago have a different view on the functionality of a sailboat. They are now also working this out into the design and numerous practical details of the larger boat. Moreover, they are experimenting with other materials such as flax fibers and hemp oil resin, instead of fiberglass and synthetic resins. 39BEN will be a sailing yacht for the twenties.

Pogo50

Sailors salivate at the aggressive wedge that cuts the hull of a Pogo 50 forms. The yacht exudes speed, but also an understated certainty of impressive performance at sea. The extremely wide transom of 5,10 meters requires a small walk for the helmsman if, after a maneuver, the better steering position is at the tiller on the other side. The 3,50 meter deep keel is retractable, so that shallower bays are also accessible for anchoring. Quite a lot of sail in relation to the length and weight of the boat hoisted on the mast. The shape of this largest Pogo is that of a Mini Transat ocean racer three times as large. The interior is not built to make a glossy impression, but there is enough space to sit, sleep, shower and cook in comfort.

Agile 42

VMG Yachtbuilders from Enkhuizen builds the Agile 42, a 12,70 meter long sporty sailing yacht that weighs only 4.800 kilos in the 'bare' competition version, thanks to the light and strong carbon construction material. As with many larger yachts, the choice of furnishings and finishes, color choices and materials is up to the customer. The luxurious interior space has cabinets and tables made of solid wood instead of honeycomb sandwich panels. The electric winches are also heavier than the manually operated ones. Thanks to the extremely low initial weight, the yacht is still lighter and therefore potentially faster than many other cabin sailing yachts with a competitive drive.

Alpha Centauri Hydroplane

The styling from the Batman films gives the fast hydrofoil Hydroplane an aggressive appearance and makes it a sensational appearance. Both protruding hulls provide a lot of stability at high speed, so that even tightly controlled turns are safe. In fact, the shape is derived from racing motorboats. Wow factor and sailing fun are the main selling points, but one hydroplane also provides real benefits: when the boat gets up to speed, it 'flies' over the water, eliminating the bouncing on the waves. This is what sailing at high speed – the hydroplane can do up to 60 knots (110 km/h) – much more comfortable. Boarding is done just like in a fighter jet through the folding canopy.

Wolfhound

Steven Dews is a painter of seagoing vessels and yachts, preferably under sail. His paintings are realistic with exceptionally fine details. The painter had his own yacht developed and found the ideal partner in the Dutch yacht designer Olivier van Meer. It became a schooner, a two-masted sailing yacht with the highest mast at the back. Thanks to a centerboard instead of a keel, shallow water can also be explored and the boat remains upright when the tide recedes and she ends up on dry land. Wood, encapsulated in epoxy resin, became the building material. The classic beauty won the honorary title Classic Yacht of the Year 2017. The painter now lives and works from his own twenty-meter-long picture.
