The Flying Deer unites three icons

The Amsterdam Slovenian artist Tadej Oblak used the bar of the Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam hotel as a white canvas and temporarily transformed it into a neo-pop art work of art. With a name change: from The Flying Dutchman to The Flying Deer. Inspired by the Grand Series of whiskey house Glenfiddich, the design reflects the shared motto of the house, the five-star hotel and the artist: 'crown the occasion'. Classic meets modern

The playful capture of moments of happiness and the coronation of the portrayed icons is Tadej Oblak's signature. His pop-art design for the bar is an interplay between classic and modern, based on the characteristic foundations of both Glenfiddich and The Grand. The menu has been expanded with special whiskey cocktails and almost the entire Glenfiddich range shines on the shelf, from the iconic 12 year old to the quirky, exclusive series of single malts. Executive chef Raoul Meuwese has developed accompanying dishes for all whiskies, cocktails and flights.

The three icons

The Grand is located between two historic canals in the heart of the city and has a rich history; it has been transformed from a 15th-century monastery into a royal residence, to the headquarters of the Admiralty and Amsterdam's city hall. Today, The Grand offers five-star luxury in a unique Amsterdam ambiance, with French elegance and grandeur. The hotel welcomes a variety of guests, from trendy Amsterdammers to famous international film stars. Founded by William Grant in the Scottish town of Dufftown, Glenfiddich first flowed from the stills in 1887. The Glenfiddich Grand Series is an exclusive range of single malts that exudes luxury and is designed to celebrate special occasions on a whole new level. She celebrates this together with Tadej in The Flying Deer. Oblak has now become an all-round visual artist, his work varies from traditional graphic designs and portraits to digital (3D) art and sculptures.

The garden of Amsterdam

In the courtyard of The Grand, the bar has been expanded with a glass garden house in the style of the new design. Here you can enjoy the whiskey menu in a pleasant atmosphere, in the sun or under the starry sky. Will we see you there?
