STATE designs international icon

Just as Dubai has the Burj Khalifa, Egypt also has an icon. As one of five architectural firms worldwide, STATE was asked to design a unique holiday residence on a private island on the north coast of Egypt. A look at this architectural masterpiece…

STATE

In his own words, challenging is in his blood STATE. As a creative architectural firm, the team knows how to push boundaries together. And with one unlimited budget they tackled this challenge with both hands.

And the result is certainly impressive; the unique design includes eighteen suites, a panoramic roof with infinity pool, an indoor and outdoor swimming pool, a helicopter and an yacht dock

STATE: four themes, one triangle

The four themes, elegance and luxury, connection with nature, iconic and timeless, natural sight lines and daylight, come together in the design in a triangle shape. According to STATE: ''The triangle is the symbol of energy and power. It represents the cycles of growth that lead to a higher state of being.”

The triangle creates unique sight lines from every facade. The ground floor and first floor are oriented differently, creating 360 degree views. Each floor has its own unique experience. At the three points where the axes meet, one has been extended. These extensions each refer to a specific mode of transport, namely: the helicopter, yacht dock en horse stable

“The triangle is the symbol of energy and power”

Naturally tight and raw

The design is completely finished with concrete. This minimalist finish ensures unity in the design and reinforces the bold architectural lines. This material is not only sleek and raw, but also has a natural quality that lives up to the name Signature Island. It subtly refers to nature by literally placing its print as a signature on the building.

The infinity pool at the end of the balcony visually creates a delicate transition between the sea and the villa. Optically the two seem to merge, a powerful but subtle detail that strengthens the connection between the design and its environment.
