Singapore 2100: the city of the future

Today, the world is increasingly confronted with natural disasters, which will only increase as the impact of climate change increases. However, architectural firm WOHA reminds us that there is still hope to turn the tide with a design for a future city where people and nature can coexist. Text: Fleur de Jong

Multifunctional spaces

WOHA is a Singapore-based architectural firm that has gained worldwide recognition for its innovative and influential designs. WOHA's goal in every design is to improve the daily lives of city residents while protecting them from the effects of climate change.

In a video WOHA presents Singapore 2100: see a resilient, sustainable and future city where people and nature can coexist in self-sustaining circular systems. For example, special spaces for working, playing or living are replaced by multifunctional spaces. According to the design, work and education are no longer desk-bound, but flexible and adaptable. The new city will also offer amenities that inspire citizens to stay active and spend time in nature.

Navigate through the city in three dimensions

Singapore 2100 is a 50/50 city, which means that half of the area is used for nature and the other half for urban space. Because of this there is one balans between natural and artificial systems. The natural space is mainly intended to bring biodiversity back to the city.

In the field of mobility, the use of public transport is encouraged, which increases the use of private vehicles is reduced. Highways and other urban connections will be moved to a lower underground level. The plan is to navigate the city three-dimensionally: above ground, underground and through the air. By using different layers, the surface area is used as efficiently as possible.

The video shows what Singapore 2100 should look like according to WOHA. It remains to be seen whether the city will ever be realized, the design is certainly impressive...JTNDaWZyYW1lJTIwd2lkdGglM0QlMjI3MDAlMjIlMjBoZWlnaHQlM0QlMjI0MTUlMjIlMjBzcmMlM0QlMjJodHRwcyUzQSUyRiUyRnd3dy55b3V0dWJlLmNvbSUyRmVtYmVkJTJGWE5zSDBXcTI2Qm8lMjIlMjB0aXRsZSUzRCUyMllvdVR1YmUlMjB2aWRlbyUyMHBsYXllciUyMiUyMGZyYW1lYm9yZGVyJTNEJTIyMCUyMiUyMGFsbG93JTNEJTIyYWNjZWxlcm9tZXRlciUzQiUyMGF1dG9wbGF5JTNCJTIwY2xpcGJvYXJkLXdyaXRlJTNCJTIwZW5jcnlwdGVkLW1lZGlhJTNCJTIwZ3lyb3Njb3BlJTNCJTIwcGljdHVyZS1pbi1waWN0dXJlJTIyJTIwYWxsb3dmdWxsc2NyZWVuJTNFJTNDJTJGaWZyYW1lJTNF
