Dutch entrepreneurship during coronation

Millions of people worldwide witnessed the coronation of Charles III and Camilla last Saturday. However, London's Westminster Abbey also showed off a piece of Dutch entrepreneurship. A furniture brand based in Culemborg supplied chairs for the historic ceremony.
Casala

Casala is specialized in manufacturing stylish project furniture that excels in design and functionality. From hospitals to theaters, you can come across chairs from the Dutch company in many places. Last Saturday also during the coronation. However, the project in collaboration with Westminster Abbey was completed several years ago. Casala provided the church with 2016 in 2.200 curvy chairs.

Oak veneer and resistant to candle wax

Westminster Abbey was looking for a functional chair that would also perfectly match the aesthetics and architecture of the abbey. The final chair that was specially developed for the Abbey is based on Casala's Curvy chair. However, a number of features were added and adjusted. For example, the seat and backrest were made of oak veneer, matched to the parts already present in the church.

The chairs were also finished with a stain that is resistant to candle wax. Another wish from the church was good sound insulation. The Curvy chair is therefore equipped with subtle bumpers on both sides of the frame to prevent mutual sound transmission. In addition, rubbers have been applied between the seat and the frame. A sound-absorbing felt stacking protection has also been mounted on the underside of the seat, which significantly reduces noise during stacking and unstacking.

Zifra's seat numbering system ensured that guests such as Willem-Alexander, Máxima and Harry could easily find their seat for the ceremony. This advanced and digital system offers numerous display options such as row and seat numbering, letter display, icons, logos and even QR codes. The display was seamlessly integrated into the inside of the wooden backrest of the Curvy chair.
