DOLCE VITA

In the latest editorial by photography artist Stefan Marcel Gerard, he discovers the archetype of the Versace lover. The new work that stands for surprise, pleasure, pain and appreciation and that produces beautiful pictures shot in South Africa...

Inspired by the title of the Italo Disco soundtrack from the late '80s, the work explores the playful and sensual pleasure of life. In the editorial, silk meets shine, print meets print and dolce vita.

The Versace lover lives in the moment and continuously balances on the spectrum between pleasure and pain. However; when do earthly pleasures become pain, and more importantly, when does pain become heavenly pleasure?

Stefan M. Gerard

Stefan is known for his penetrating and narrative portraits. The photographer shows a surreal dream world in his work and lives in Amsterdam and Cape Town. At a young age, Gerard moved to Buenos Aires, where he became infected with the mix of European chic and Latin sensuality, a trait that is still clearly visible in his signature today.

Stefan's limited edition prints are inspired by the greatest painters of the Renaissance, Rubens and Caravaggio, who managed to tell a story on a single canvas. His work is subject to the human condition, including timeless archetypal truths such as belonging, esteem, anger and hope. His collections are praised for their cinematic aesthetics.
