The song was written by Irving Berlin in 1940 and is the most listened to Christmas song of all time. The song's estimated earnings are around €57 million. Irving Berlin had no idea when he wrote it that he would release the biggest hit. In 2016, it was estimated that annual royalties (share of revenue that musicians receive) amounted to €385,723.

All I Want For Christmas Is You

If you might have noticed, the song 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' is not to be missed at Christmas time. The song is used to mark the Christmas season and is used in several films, commercials and videos. The Christmas hit was written by Mariah Carey and Walter Afanasieff. The song was recorded in August 1994 and took about 15 minutes to make. Mariah and Walter earn €530,000 in royalties every year. And it has raised approximately €53 million over the years.

Santa Claus is Coming to Town

The Christmas hit was written by Haven Gillespie and Fred J Coots in 1933. The day after it debuted, 100,000 copies were sold. The hit has been covered several times by major artists, such as Mariah Carey and Bruce Springsteen. However, the most successful cover is that of Jackson Five from 1970. The original musicians of the well-known song sold the rights to the music record company EMI in 1981. In 2016, Fred J Coots' family challenged this and won. The family will get the rights back in 2029 and will hopefully be able to enjoy the success. Since the hit has raised an estimated €44 million.

The Christmas song was written by Mel Torme, who, funnily enough, is Jewish and wrote the song in 45 minutes in the summer of 1944. Mel Torme has written about 250 songs during his career. But his greatest (financial) success is 'The Christmas Song'. And has generated approximately €40 million, making it one of the most listened to Christmas hits of all time.

Paul McCartney – Wonderful Christmastime

The well-known song written and sung by Paul McCartney is and remains one of the best-known Christmas songs. The success earns him approximately €350.000 to €530.000 in annual royalties. And has earned Paul approximately €35 million over time. He wrote the song in 1979 and it only took him ten minutes to write. He wrote it during the recording of his album McCartney II.
