Photo Museum at the Vrijthof presents BACK HOME

The Photo Museum at the Vrijthof in Maastricht presents the exhibition BACK HOME until January 29, 2023. The museum shows new work by eight professional photographers who have been nominated for the Somfy Photography Award 2022. The two winners of the European photography competition will be announced at the opening of the group exhibition.

Home

The global pandemic in 2020 and 2021 forced everyone to focus on 'home'. Suddenly more time was spent here than ever. Sleeping, eating, working, leisure activities and even holidays. Fortunately, a period of complete dependence on 'home' has come to an end and society has slowly returned to 'normal' life.

Everyone experienced and endured that period in their own way. But what does it mean for us to be 'home', how do we remember that later? Or not to have a home that offers security. How do people experience the feeling of 'home' and how can we convey this in relation to our well-being, protection and comfort? What does 'home' feel like, what happens there and what does it look like?

Work

The photographers include Jérémy De Backer, Popel Coumou, Nathalie Daoust, Chantal Heijnen, Viktor Hübner, Bas Losekoot, Petra Noordkamp and Fab Rideti. The finalists have visualized the current theme of BACK HOME in an individual photo series and each have their own space in the museum at their disposal to present the series.

The Somfy Photography Award 2022 carries a first prize of €15.000 and a second prize of €10.000.
