Invest In Our Planet

Earth Day takes place every year on April 22 to highlight the environmental problems we face today. The first edition took place in 1970 and was created by the American environmental activist Gay Lord Nelson after an oil spill struck Santa Barbara in 1969.

The theme of Earth Day 2022 is: 'Invest In Our Planet'. This calls on governments and companies to invest in a better future for the planet. This year there is also a special focus on sustainable fashion, with Earthday.org launching a petition calling for change within the industry as well as legislation.

Exhibition

The new exhibition 'Dye' at the TextielMuseum in Tilburg shows the origin of dyes and the impact it has on people and the environment. The work of various artists and (fashion) designers, such as: Claudy Jongstra, Antonio José Guzman, Nan Groot Antink en Aboubakar Fofana gives the visitor a glimpse of the beauty and dilemmas of dyed textiles. This is how new work is presented by Claudy Jongstra, which is known for its expertise in vegetable dyeing. For the museum, the artist takes up the challenge of creating a fabric in which all steps in the production process take place locally.

On the occasion of the exhibition, the museum also has a Paint plant garden constructed. In the garden you discover which plants can be used to dye textiles.

The exhibition Dye can be seen on October 2, 2022 TextielMuseum Tilburg.
