The aesthetic trend: From 'enhanced' to 'natural'

When looking at the current aesthetic landscape, an increasing trend is to contour the body with a natural-looking result. However, this trend has yet to spread from America. In the Netherlands, consumers often still choose to exaggerately enlarge their lips, breasts and buttocks, for example. How does plastic surgeon Farid Kazem view the trends? Text: Mical Joseph

What are the trends within the aesthetic industry?

“A clear trend for the next five years is shaping and contouring the body. Such types of body treatments are very popular. Then you should consider, for example, CoolSculpting, the permanent removal of fat cells by freezing and EMSculpt NEO for muscle building, strengthening and skin tightening. People even say: “Body is the new face”. Over the past ten years, facial treatments have increased enormously due to new techniques, among other things. In facial ethics, non-surgical treatments are also at the top of the list. A good example is skin tightening using advanced radio frequency energy. This is used with the NuEra Tight and for skin improvement with the Hydrafacial. This industry has become a billion dollar business and the expectation is that 'body' will become even bigger. Growth of no less than 300% is expected over the next five years!”

Why such high expectations?

“Partly due to the increase in heavier people, there is also more demand for losing weight and shaping bodies. The new generation of clients demands these treatment methods. Both woman and man. The current landscape shows that men are still slightly behind the aesthetic trends, but this will also triple in the next five years.”

How do you anticipate these trends with Kazem Aesthetica?

“We have been working on the 'shape' trend for quite some time, but nowadays we also focus more on men, in addition to women. For example, men are very interested in CoolSculpting, lasering and botox & fillers. We are seeing an increase in eyelid corrections in men, when it comes to surgical treatments. This has been popular among women for a while.

The clinic puts together various packages with hydrafacials, skin tightening and skin boosters with growth factors. These boosters stimulate the skin from within to rejuvenate. These are not fillers, but you can combine them with these so that the fillers work even better. The same also applies to the combination with lasers, skin tightening and nutritional supplements. These are all unique opportunities to achieve the client's goals with the help of a solid treatment plan.”

Nowadays you see a lot of women enlarging their buttocks on TV and social media. What do you think will be the next beauty standard?

“To be honest, I don't think that enlarging certain body parts is now the beauty standard. Yes, there was a period where everything was exaggerated: the lips, breasts and buttocks, but the trend in America now is that everything is as natural as possible. And that is also philosophy and trademark by Kazem Aesthetica: we make people natural Nice. The Netherlands is a number of years behind the natural trend. At the moment we still see many consumers using the 'enhance trend', while that is no longer really common in America. Overseas It is now trendy to use 'baby botox': this keeps the skin tight, but still leaves a form of facial expression.”
