FOR THE REAL ENTHUSIAST: A LIVING ROOM WITH A CAR
This livable garage concept allows cars and people to share one space in a distinctly stylish way.
A Hummer in the middle of the living room might be a bit too much for most people. However, with this new garage concept this is not a bad idea at all. This livable garage concept ensures that cars and people can simply live next to each other in one space in a very stylish way.Text: Fleur de Jong

A special place
Cars seem to be slowly making their way from the garage into our living rooms. The automaker of the GMC Hummer EV has tapped renowned American interior designer Kelly Wearstler to create the ultimate garage for the vehicle. Kelly Wearstler's designs embody the bold yet light-hearted aesthetic of California. Wearstler chose the desert of Southern California as the ideal location for the garage. According to the designer, placing the futuristic electric car next to the arid landscape creates a beautiful contrast.
The exterior of the garage has a hexagonal shape with a large section in the middle that divides the building into two parts. The entrance gates have the shape of the letter 'H', which subtly refers to the car brand. The driveway that follows continues to the garage.
An elevator
Since the garage is also intended for living, the interior has of course been carefully considered. For example, the designer placed her own Echo sofa and Monolith side table in the concept. The wavy Etcetera chair by Jan Ekselius and the angular Quarta lounge chair by Mario Botta are also included in the design. The Hummer itself should of course not be missing livable garage, space has been created for this in the middle of the room. The car is lifted into the room by means of a futuristic, round lift.
Unfortunately this one livable garage not yet a reality. The design does provide a glimpse into the future of how car collectors can literally take their garage to the next level. Click here for a building at another special location.
