The Netherlands continues to surprise with culinary delights, and this was confirmed once again during the presentation of the coveted Michelin stars. Ten restaurants received their very first star, while eight establishments received a green star. Curious which gastronomic hotspots are worth a detour? MASTERS lists them for you.

In addition to the appreciation for exceptional cooking, Michelin also sees a clear trend towards sustainability and local products. Terms such as "terroir" and local have been commonplace for a while, but were further explored this year. “The craft and the people behind it are increasingly being highlighted. Restaurants such as Kook Atelier Op Oost highlight the natural wealth of their surroundings. On the plate, but also in the glass, with the increasing attention for non-alcoholic drinks, such as the great kombuchas from Neder in Alkmaar,” according to Michelin.

Furthermore, according to the organization, it appears that the culinary landscape is not only moving towards nature and craftsmanship, but also towards a smart integration of international influences: ''To meet the global intensity and liveliness that chefs like to play with, growers and other suppliers are also increasingly growing exotic products in Dutch soil. International rhymes more often with local.''

This year, there are no new restaurants receiving a third Michelin star. De Librije in Zwolle, which has been awarded three stars since 2004, retains its status as a culinary heavyweight.

Restaurant Inter Scaldes in Kruiningen received two stars this year, bringing the total number of two-star restaurants in the Netherlands to nineteen.
