VOICES OF FASHION, A LESSER-KNOWN FASHION STORY

Centraal Museum Utrecht presents the Voices of Fashion exhibition from February 13 to May 24. With the exhibition, the museum aims to foster a more inclusive understanding of fashion history.

Centraal Museum Utrecht presents the exhibition until May 24 Voices of Fashion. With the exhibition, the museum supports a more inclusive memory of fashion history. Seven themes

After centuries of a dominant Western European perspective, the Centraal Museum investigates the influence of Africa and the African diaspora on fashion. Using seven themes, insight is provided into the way in which fashion has long been indebted to black cultures. Attention is paid, among other things, to the position of the black designer in the Western world fashion industry and to current and historical developments regarding hip hop and street wear. Virgil Ablo x Louis VuittonDaily PaperCo-curator and fashion activist founder Janice Deul is happy with the exhibition. Janice calls it a celebration of black beauty, talent and culture, which will hopefully provoke thought and give models and designers the credit they deserve.

In total, more than 100 designs are presented from leading and emerging names, including: Moncler x Valentino x Lemlem, Steve McQueen, Yves Saint Laurent, Dior, Paco Rabanne, Daily Paper, Valerio Zeno and Off-White. The Centraal Museum will also publish the book 'Voices of Fashion' together with Serana Angelisa and Glamcult. This book will be full of interviews, images, columns and essays from inspiring and leading people from the Netherlands fashion world. Click here for more information about the exhibition
