Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings into film history at breakneck speed. After just three weeks in cinemas, the film has crossed the $2 billion mark. The worldwide box office now stands at over $2.03 billion (€1.75 billion). With this, the latest film starring Tom Holland joins an extremely exclusive group.

Not only Sony and Marvel are seeing dollars flow in. Lead actor Tom Holland also stands to receive a particularly lucrative payday. According to TheWrap, the 30-year-old actor received at least $20 million (€17.3 million) upfront for his fourth solo film as Spider-Man. Thanks to a bonus arrangement tied to box office revenues, his total compensation could exceed $100 million (€86.4 million). For comparison: for his first appearance as Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War, Holland reportedly received $250,000 (€216,000). A remarkable salary progression.

That Holland can benefit from this is hardly surprising. Brand New Day opened worldwide with $932 million and surpassed the $2 billion mark by its third weekend. It is thereby the second fastest film ever to reach that figure.
