Ready to conquer the streets and quietly zoom by. During MASTERS EXPO, Renault will reveal the new 5 E-Tech electric, a car that symbolizes the 'Renaulution'. This compact electric pop icon is not only a tribute to the past, but also an example of technological innovation and sustainable production.

The new Renault 5 E-Tech electric represents the strategic course of Renault Group towards a greener future. The car retains the charm of the previous model, but is packed with the latest electric and digital gadgets. In doing so, the company has not only used its own know-how, but also that of Ampere – the part of Renault Group that specializes in the development of electric vehicles and software.

"It takes an iconic car to get everyone working together like this"

Luca de Meo, CEO of Renault Group, explains that the new addition will bring lasting change: “The Renault 5 E-Tech electric is unlike any other car. It not only supports the transition to electric, connected mobility – as part of a greener, more sustainable approach – but also plays a key role in Renault Group’s transformation into a next-generation carmaker. Developing the car to such a technological level in France in just three years required us to take extraordinary decisions and be as agile as possible in our organisation.”

“For this project, we reversed our normal approach. We used AmpR Small, our new EV platform that is unique in Europe. This allowed us to reduce costs across the value chain to maintain profitability while delivering the very best in EV and digital technology. At the same time, we also shifted our industrial ecosystem… It takes an iconic car to get everyone working together like this and to pave the way for lasting changes in our internal organization. Our industry is going through major changes, but I believe this car will open new paths for Renault.”

Nod to the past

When the French carmaker introduced it in 1972, the Renault 5 stood out with its original and modern design. The shield bumpers and bright body colours and the shape of the headlights gave the car a mischievous, almost human look. The Renault 5 reflected the changing society of the time and became an instant hit – especially with women and young people, a new group of buyers at the time.

But how do you give such a timeless icon a new impulse, fitting in with the modern, electric and digital world? That was the challenge for the design team.

A 'retro-futuristic' style was chosen: bold headlights, striking colours, and playful details such as vertical rear lights and a new ventilation grille in the shape of the number 5 that lights up when you approach the car. The Renault 5 E-Tech electric nods to the past, but with subtle aerodynamic tweaks that make it fully ready for the 21st century. So it impresses again, now as an electric icon with a touch of nostalgia.
