Not only the fact that the violin is a real 'Guarneri' means that it is compared to a Rembrandt, but the instrument that will be auctioned in June has been in the hands of the French violinist for 20 years. Regis Pasquier, who played the instrument in the most respected concert halls.

The violin will be auctioned just outside Paris on June 3 and has an estimated base price of around €4,5 million. However, experts believe that the instrument could yield around €10 million.

Incredibly rare

Sourced from Cremona, Italy, the maple violin was handcrafted by the respected Italian luthier Giuseppe Guarneri at the height of his career. Bartolomeo Giuseppe Guarneri was an Italian violin maker from the Guarneri family of violin makers. Besides Stradivari, Guarneri is considered the greatest violin maker of all time. According to experts, the instruments of the old Italian master violin makers have never been equaled. While fellow violin maker from Cremona Stradivari was already famous in his own time, Guarneri only gained recognition in the nineteenth century. For a long time the Italian was a misunderstood builder; he was not interested in the beauty or refinement of the instrument, but in the sound. For this reason, he did not become a violin maker for the rich in his time, but for professional musicians.

Guarneri violins are incredibly rare; In his entire life he made only 150 violins. Making them particularly coveted among both players and collectors.
