Maak kennis met ‘s werelds eerste elektrische, vliegende raceboot

The cabin of this particular boat is more reminiscent of the cockpit of a Formula 1 car. Therefore, this boat is not made for people who want to float quietly in the water on a hot day with a cold glass of champagne in their hands. Meet the world's first fully electric, flying racing boat; the racebird. Text: Fleur de JongTheinnovative Racebird from the company E1 combines a futuristic design with cooling and hydrofoil technology to pave the way for a new era of electric racing on the water.

Inside the boat behind the captain is a battery that is cooled by using so-called energy-efficient submersible cooling. Because of the two wings on the boat, the Racebird rises above the water to reduce drag and thus also maximize energy efficiency. The driver will be protected by an enclosed cabin containing a steering wheel and pedals; in other words, a cockpit of sorts. Not surprising when you consider that the Racebird can reach speeds of up to 93 kilometers per hour and E1 founder Alejandro Agag has his background in running a GP2 team.

Testing

You will probably already stand out quite a bit in the water with this boat, yet instead of black you can choose another color on the outside. For example, white, red, blue or green is also an option.

The racing boat made its public debut earlier in northern Italy, where top model Cara Delevingne stepped aboard. Now, according to a schedule of several weeks, even more extensive testing of the boat will take place.
