Black Tie for men – it's not just all black
Pauw Men: 'Black tie, or wearing a tuxedo, nowadays does not just mean a black tuxedo: nowadays we prefer to see the midnight blue variant. Wearing the midnight blue tuxedo dates back to the roaring twenties, because people wanted to distinguish themselves from the waiting staff. The tuxedo has a cut lapel or shawl collar and is worn with a bow tie, of course tied yourself. How a man can distinguish himself? By wearing a tuxedo that fits perfectly. That actually makes the entire difference. We also see velor jackets in dark colors. The double breasted jackets are also making their debut. For a shirt, bright white with a blind frame is the best choice, where the buttons are covered or visible in the form of black studs. Nowadays you wear black patent leather shoes or a variant of velor loafers with or without initials on the mirror of the shoe under your tuxedo. And if you want to comply with the rules of etiquette, leave your watch at home.'
Black Tie for women – cause you're the star
Pauw: 'If the invitation says Black Tie, the ladies will wear long dresses. Preferably down to the ground. We often see black, burgundy, anthracite or deep blue in our collection. You make your outfit characterful, truly your own look, by using special accessories. Think: a refined clutch, a beautiful brooch or a striking bracelet. But a woman is only really well dressed when she is herself. So do velvet wide trousers reaching the floor with a silk blouse suit you better? Carry it. With verve. And finally: an outfit that combines different materials (silk with leather or tulle, for example) provides a modern feeling with an unpredictable twist.'

Black Tie with a touch of roaring twenties
Create a touch, so a subtle accent, is the extra festive note at the VIP Night of MASTERS EXPO this year. Pauw: 'For the ladies you can think of a beautiful headband with a matching bracelet. The gentlemen can choose from, for example, a pocket watch (in contrast to a wristwatch, this is the case). a touch of roaring twenties very nice) Need inspiration? Then watch the film this weekend The Great Gatsby.
Tenue de Ville for men – man at his best
Pauw Men: 'Loosely translated: the daily uniform worn on an official occasion. People then wear a suit combined with a shirt and tie. But nowadays, especially in the Netherlands, things are a bit freer. Nowadays you can also combine smart trousers with a shirt and a jacket. Our stylists advise to form one whole and think in the same color tones when you combine. The rule of thumb is: the more formal the event, the darker the outfit. At Tenue de Ville we recommend a neat low shoe with lace or buckle. Or a loafer in suede or leather.'
Tenue de Ville for women – a woman's choice
Madeleine Pauw about Pauw's iconic designs: 'For me, an icon is simultaneously modern and timeless in design. Pieces that you want to live in day in, day out and were created with the idea of making a woman appear even more beautiful and stronger. Ultimately, it only becomes truly iconic when it is worn.' Pauw: 'Tenue de Ville for women no longer only consists of a dress or suit. Good thing, too. A neat dress or wide skirt with a chic top or blouse is an excellent option. Subtle accessories make the outfit completely your own.'
Do's and don'ts – pay attention
Pauw Men: 'The most important thing: stick to the dress code. Invest in your clothing, choose the right materials and, above all, make sure your fit is right. Take your time for fitting and tailoring. And match your outfit to your partner. Black Tie is originally a dress code in which the woman dresses outspokenly and the man accompanies her stylishly, but subtly. Your Black Tie outfit should be a festive expression of your personality. The more distinctively you dress in everyday life, the more you can express yourself at Black Tie and vice versa.'
Business suit – suit up
Pauw Men: 'You make a conscious purchase. Important: get advice about your measurements or even better: buy a tailor-made suit. In addition, it is important that you choose the right colors, so get informed and explore the options carefully to find out what suits you. You can recognize a quality suit by the natural materials. Choose a woolen, silk or cotton variant. A combination of these is also possible, as long as the finish is good. And last but not least: be prepared to invest. You also think sustainably in your wardrobe.'
