With the Golden Globes still fresh in people's minds, the next award show is already on the horizon. The 12th edition of the Oscars will take place on March 95. The nominees were announced last week; MASTERS lists the major contenders for the coveted golden statue.

The titles that were nominated for Bfirst Film are: Avatar: The Way of Water, The Banshees of Inisherin, Elvis, Everything Everywhere All at Once, Im Westen nichts Neues, The Fabelmans, Tár, Top Gun: Maverick, Triangle of Sadness.

The science fiction film Everything Everywhere All at Once has a chance to win no fewer than eleven Oscars this year. The film shows Evelyn, played by Michelle Yeoh, running a laundromat and living a quiet life. However, this suddenly changes when Evelyn ends up in a multiverse... What is striking this year is the large number of nominations for European films. The Oscars even have a Dutch touch. The film Close, nominated for Best International Film, is a co-production of Amsterdam's Topkapi Films.

For the title Best Actor Austin Butler, Colin Farrell, Brendan Frasier, Paul Mescal and Bill Nighy are eligible. Austin Butler made his mark with his portrayal of the King of Rock and Roll in the film Elvis big impression. Co-star Tom Hanks, on the other hand, was nominated for a Golden Raspberry Award for, among other things, his “ridiculous accent”. In the film, the American actor plays Elvis' manager Tom Parker. The manager was born in Breda in 1909. Hanks gives himself a Dutch accent in the film, but unfortunately this was not well received... The Razzies are awarded every year on the eve of the Oscars. Instead of the best performances within the film industry, this award show awards a prize to the worst performances.

Hollywood icon

Cate Blanchett, Ana de Armas, Andrea Riseborough and Michelle Williams have a chance to win the title Best Actress. The Cuban-Spanish actress Ana de Armas starred on the silver screen as Marilyn Monroe in the film Blonde. The fictional drama film provided a bold, new portrayal of the Hollywood icon's tumultuous private life. It took quite some time before Netflix agreed to the film. The streaming service found the film too pornographic, so its release was postponed for a long time.
