Looking for the ultimate place to live? This is the city to be in 2025

Where in the world can you enjoy your cappuccino on a terrace without a care in the world, is healthcare excellently organised and can you effortlessly reach your work without tripping over loose paving stones? Every year, the EIU investigates this in their Global Liveability Index. Vienna, for years the most liveable city in the world, has to step aside this year. Who does take the crown?

With perfect scores for stability, infrastructure and education, Copenhagen is the place you would most like to live in 2025, according to the EIU. Cycling along canals, ultra-modern facilities and a well-organised society: the city scores an impressive 98 out of 100 points.

Vienna, the undisputed number one for years, has been demoted to second place. Not because the city has gone backwards, but mainly because of a drop in the so-called 'stability score', partly due to security concerns such as the cancelled Taylor Swift show. The Austrian capital shares its silver medal with Zurich, which excelled in education and healthcare.

Europe in the lead

Western European cities once again dominate the top ten, with Geneva in fifth place and Zurich in second. The exception? Australia. Melbourne takes fourth place, closely followed by Sydney (sixth) and Adelaide (ninth). Osaka, Auckland and Vancouver also represent Japan, New Zealand and Canada respectively in the highest regions.

Not every continent scores equally well. British cities have dropped considerably: London is now out of the top 50 at 54th place. In contrast, Al Khobar in Saudi Arabia has made a big leap forward through investments in health care and education.

And the United States? Honolulu is the highest-ranked American city, but it remains stuck at number 23.

And at the bottom of the list? Things remain bleak. Despite political changes, Damascus is still the least liveable city in the world.
