5. London (63 billionaires)
In the English city across the sea, 63 Londoners can call themselves billionaires this year, a slight decrease compared to last year when the city still had 66 billionaires and occupied the fourth place. All billionaires together have an estimated net worth of €269 billion. The richest resident is Len Blavatnik with €29,2 billion in the bank.
4. Shanghai (65 billionaires)
Shanghai has 65 billionaires living in the city, an increase of four compared to 2022. A total of € 165,8 billion is involved in the billionaires club headed by Colin Zheng Huang (€ 27,5 billion). Zheng Huaing is the third biggest riser on the Forbes list, after his fortune increased by €17,3 billion as a result of a significant doubling of his shares.
3. Beijing (68 billionaires)
China's capital has continued to shed billionaires at a faster rate than any other city, tumbling from No. 1 in 2021 to No. 2 in 2022 and now ranking third. Beijing – or Beijing – has lost no fewer than fifteen billionaires in a year, but still has a total of € 225,3 billion in the billionaires' coffers.
4. Hong Kong (70 billionaires)
Hong Kong climbed to second place this year, welcoming two billionaires as billionaires. The comeback was made thanks to the two tycoons who have benefited from China's reopening and the increase in tourism: Zhao Tongtong, co-founder of hotel chain operator H World Group, and Lawrence Ho, CEO of casino operator Melco Resorts.
1. New York City (101 billionaires)
The big top of the list is New York. The American city was number 1 for seven years, but was briefly dethroned by Beijing in 2021. The city reclaimed its place in 2022 and is once again the leader this year. Despite the loss of six billionaires, The Big Apple is still home to 101 billionaires this year. New York is also the richest city for billionaires; more than €190 billion richer than Paris which comes in second when it comes to the total wealth of billionaire residents. Nearly a quarter of the wealth is owned by the richest resident, entrepreneur and former NY mayor Michael Bloomberg (€ 86 billion) and the second richest, philanthropist and socialite Julia Koch (€ 54 billion).
After London, Moscow (61), Mumbai (56), Shenzhen (54), Singapore (46), Delhi (37) and San Francisco (37) complete the list.
