The residential attractiveness index shows how attractive a municipality is considered to live in. According to researcher Marten Middeldorp, Atlas mainly bases its assessment on how much people are willing to pay per square meter for a home. This method has been used since 2003. But in addition to house prices, issues such as employment, safety and education are also taken into account.
According to the research agency, the entire top 10 for this year is as follows:
- Amsterdam
- Amstelveen
- Leiden
- Utrecht
- Leidschendam-Voorburg
- Hilversum
- The Hague
- Rotterdam
- Haarlem
- Delft
However, our capital scores somewhat lower on the green-blue attractiveness and is in seventeenth place. This sub-indicator refers to the combination of plants and water. According to the research agency, green and blue in a neighborhood and residential environment contribute to the attractiveness of a place. Arnhem is at the top. According to this edition of Atlas, the city combines a favorable location in relation to the Veluwe with large areas of green and blue in the neighborhoods.
