Every week a unique MASTERS Member is highlighted who is a member of MASTERS League. With a passion for clothing and fabrics, Bart Jan Smittenaar started I am Luigi in 2013. The men's fashion company, together with English and Italian fabric weavers, makes high-end tailor-made suits based on the wishes and needs of the customer. Text: Larissa Schaule Jullens

I am Luigi

With a passion for clothing and fabrics, Bart Jan Smittenaar started I am Luigi in 2013. I am Luigi makes high-end tailor-made clothing together with English and Italian fabric weavers and is made according to the wishes and needs of the customer. After all, a nice tailor-made suit or sporty jacket is a great investment for every man. “Everyone only thinks of suits when they think of tailor-made clothing, but we make much more than that. Nowadays we are increasingly taking the lead smart casual clothing, so these are sporty jackets, tailored trousers, shirts. The emphasis is mainly on something more sporty.”

Full service concept

So far, I am Luigi has only focused on men's clothing, but that will change in the future. “We were actually going to launch a women's label at the beginning of this year, but we are postponing this to next year,” says Bart Jan. Good service comes first at I am Luigi and they owe their uniqueness to it full service concept. This means that they come to people's homes. This allows certain men, such as celebrities or men who do not like shopping, to still buy tailor-made clothing.

“Networking is very important to me. Everything we do is based on award and apart from just making beautiful products, you want people to be able to see it. Networking is tangible. If we show up in nice clothes and you then build a good relationship, the rest will take care of itself. It is nice to network on a certain level, with like-minded people in a beautiful location.”

MASTERS Member

Bart Jan has only been a MASTERS Member since 2019. “I'm hot off the press. Last year I had my own stand at Masters of LXRY and then I became a member. Corona came in the new year, so unfortunately I have not yet been able to attend an event of the MASTERS Member League. I did attend the Men's Lunch during the fair, where members of the MASTERS Member League were also present. I made a lot of contacts from that lunch and met nice people, which later led to new things.”
