Using bold and exclusive designs, STATE of Architecture wants to challenge current modern architecture and make statements. With their first STATE stand at MASTERS EXPO – The Magical Edition, the creative architectural firm is happy to introduce the general public to this. MASTERS talked to co-founder Bruce Verdonschot, who provided a glimpse of the magical veil.

When did the entrepreneurial magic start for you?

'After high school I started my first design agency. The first assignments were small metamorphoses or interior design jobs, but this grew into increasingly larger villas. I designed my first unique villa when I was 18 years old. This was the moment the magic began. It was proof to me that architecture was my greatest passion.'

What is the most magical moment of your career?

'The most magical moment of my career so far is the launch of the new brand identity STATE including the premiere of its own mini documentary. My business partner and I played the leading role together with three unique artists, giving them the opportunity to tell and portray our brand story through their own vision in various disciplines of art - film, dance and art. The various expressions ensured that STATE gained even more strength and was positioned as an innovative, daring and exclusive agency. During the premiere we were surrounded by clients, relations, friends and family and depicted as true movie stars. In my opinion this can be described as magical.'

What is your motto?

'Abstracting the concept, designing the minimal.'

If you could make a magic potion, what entrepreneurial talents would it contain?

'For me the most important ingredients would be: my own distinct style; in vision but also in your design or product, integrity; keep your agreements and make this your priority, a sense of responsibility; This way you can take matters into your own hands and have control over the end result and finally have the courage to dare to think differently and make your own plan.'

What novelty will you bring to MASTERS EXPO in December?

'This year we will be at MASTERS EXPO for the first time with our own STATE stand. We love making statements. We have implemented this in our stand design. A small tip of the veil; the stand will have a statement piece bar with an 8-meter light box that highlights various 3D printed models. Simplicity that is expressed in a bold and bold manner.'

“We see trends as a danger”

What are the trends in the field of architecture in the coming year?

'We see trends as a danger. Instead of following trends and therefore getting a lot of the same, we prefer to make them ourselves. In the coming year we will mainly focus on combining futuristic en luxury. A combination of, for example, pronounced shapes, lines and surfaces with abstract additions of light and nature. We then enrich this with elements such as large glass surfaces and unique materials. The combination creates a statement that translates the success of the clients.'
