MASTERS Member of the week: Henrico van Lammeren

Henrico van Lammeren is the general manager of wine importer Vinites. He is passionate about distinctive Italian wines and is a MASTERS member.

He is general manager of wine importer Vinites, is fond of typical Italian wines and he is a member of the MASTERS League. Henrico van Lammeren left the media world behind fifteen years ago and focused on the versatile and exciting wine industry. Text: Larissa Schaule Jullens

Since 1979

Vinites is a wine importer and a real family business. The foundation was laid in 1979, when the parents of owner Eddy de Boer sent him to the Netherlands with Italian wines to sell here. Vinites was born, and to this day both the country Italy and Eddy de Boer play a prominent role for the company. Italian wines form the backbone of the Vinites range. “We are a classic import company of wine and distillates related to wines such as grappa. Vinites imports wine from almost all wine producing countries, but sake and (soon) whiskey are also imported. We supply a specific range to retail and our own range to catering, specialty stores and websites,” says Henrico.

Around the world

As general manager of Vinites, Henrico has become an indispensable pawn in the wine field. “I am concerned with strategy, the future, product development and innovation, strategic alliances, collaborations, the range, and I am part of a test panel. Normally I go abroad a lot. I visit Italy about six times, and I also go to wine fairs in other countries and South Africa.”

Unthinkable

Henrico has not always had a passion for wine. In fact, he didn't drink a drop until fifteen years ago - until he ended up at Vinites. “I worked at the newspaper publisher of the Telegraaf. There I had developed a subscription platform for the regional newspapers of the Telegraaf. Wine was also included, and I started working on this together with Vinites. After a year I was the marketing manager of Vinites, and until then I never really drank. Once at Vinites I was 'immersed' in wine, and now I can't imagine life without it. You can wake me up for Italian wines. But I can also be looking for the robustness and clarity of wines from South Africa. I love that.”
