Meet the skyscraper of the future
In this day and age it costs a lot of money to acquire a piece of land. But, leave it to an American architectural firm to come up with a creative solution. The company designed a skyscraper hanging from an asteroid.
The Burj Khalifa in Dubai is officially known as the tallest building in the world, with a height of 828 meters and 163 floors. Nevertheless, several architectural firms remain determined to come up with innovative concepts to surpass this structure.
Some of these concepts are so impressive that it is difficult to imagine that they could ever become reality. A striking example of this was presented by Clouds Architecture Office. Their Analemma Tower would hang upside down from an asteroid 50.000 kilometers above Earth. The immense structure would float above the ground, contain luxury apartments and be accessible by drone. Because who needs a normal front door these days?
High and dry
The asteroid would follow Earth's orbit, shuttling back and forth between the northern and southern hemispheres, before returning to the same position in the sky daily. A cable of exceptional strength would have to be lowered from a large asteroid positioned in Earth's orbit, from which the skyscraper would then be suspended. The water for the tower is collected from rainwater and maintained in a semi-closed cycle system. The power comes from solar panels.
Designer of the Analemma Tower, Ostap Rudakevych sees the future of 'spatial' living brightly: “Since the caves were abandoned, buildings have steadily become larger and lighter. We speculate that these will one day break away from the Earth's surface and protect us from damaging floods, earthquakes and tsunamis. The Analemma Tower is a conceptual idea that explores how this could possibly be realized in the future.”
