The Dutch Biotope
The Dutch pavilion at the 2021 World Exhibition in Dubai, called The Dutch Biotope, will have an energy-generating roof made of colored solar cells, designed by Marjan van Aubel. The panels are not only modular but also circular and made of organic materials, which is rare for solar panels. They have a graphic design that, like stained glass, provides beautiful light and color projections in the pavilion. As if you are in a gigantic modern church. The panels are made of PET and are therefore very light and therefore easy to transport: afterwards they are dismantled and reused elsewhere.
Virtue of Blue
The more than 500 solar cells in this poetic chandelier are cut in the shape of four different butterfly species that flutter around a glass light source. They charge the chandelier during the day like real butterflies warm themselves in the sun through their wings. Although they are static, the butterflies appear to be in full motion. 'Virtue of Blue', a work of art by Jeroen and Joep Verhoeven, measures no less than 144 x 144 cm.
Micro Water Structures
To effectively collect, purify and distribute excess rainwater in the near future, Jólan van der Wiel designs urban installations. In 'Micro Water Structures' he investigates how we can anticipate the expected water problems and playfully imagines a hopeful solution, including by integrating fountains and swimming areas. The installation, which is based on a symbiosis between rainwater and architecture, should function as a conversation piece and make our dealings with water and our ecosystem open to discussion. Micro Water Structures also shows what role design can play in solving ecological-related problems.
