Artwork on wheels: Louis Vuitton and Singer join forces

What happens when you apply Louis Vuitton's savoir-faire to a classic Porsche 911? Not a subtle new stitch and matching luggage, as it turns out. Together with Singer, the French fashion house presents two 911s customized down to the smallest detail.

Singer is a Californian atelier that restores and extensively personalizes classic Porsche 911s. The collaboration with Louis Vuitton began in an unexpectedly modest way. The fashion house was asked to develop a dashboard clock for a Singer-customized 911. La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton in Switzerland designed a mechanical movement inspired by the Tambour, which can be removed from the dashboard and then serve as a desk clock.

The collaboration was subsequently expanded to cover virtually all functional components of the car. The speedometer, tachometer and other gauges were redesigned in the Louis Vuitton style.

Two 911s, two characters

The result consists of two cars. The Porsche 911 Reimagined by Singer – Classic is finished in saffron, cobalt blue and yellow. The colors reference Louis Vuitton's heritage, while the interior is upholstered in natural leather. The distinctive damier pattern from the house's historic trunks appears on the seats and elsewhere. Even ventilation grilles, switches and other metal components are finished using watchmaking techniques.

For those who prefer to drive directly from the autobahn to Saint-Tropez, there is a special roof rack. It accommodates a trunk, skis or a Louis Vuitton surfboard made from blonde oak and walnut. Matching luggage has been developed as well. A plastic roof box would presumably look rather out of place here.

The second creation is the Porsche 911 Reimagined by Singer – Classic Turbo, a convertible conceived under the direction of Nicolas Ghesquière, Artistic Director of Women's Collections at Louis Vuitton. The bodywork is finished in Calcaire Lutétien white and is combined with natural leather, gold-toned details and woodwork inspired by classic motorboats. Behind the seats sits a luggage compartment finished in lacquered wood.
