A long-lost Bitcoin wallet has actually set coins in motion for the first time in 10.8 years. Whale Alert, a popular Twitter account, picked up on the transaction. The platform tracks large crypto transactions on the blockchain and reports them in real-time. Whale Alert aims to provide transparency within the crypto market and regularly warns users of potential market manipulation or notable transactions that could affect the market. 

According to the data, the unknown owner emptied his wallet, which contained about 24 BTC. His first transaction dates back to November 16, 2013. At that time, Bitcoin was worth about $440. The purchase cost the crypto investor about $11.000 at the time. After more than 10 years of hodling, the investor can now look forward to a counterpart value of almost $1,5 million.

Case of old sock? 

The phenomenon of suddenly activated wallets is not new according to crypto broker Anycoin Direct. Wallets that have been inactive for more than seven years are often considered lost. However, it does happen regularly that these crypto accounts start moving again after a long time. Perhaps the owner recently found the lost private key, there was a long-term strategy or it was a case of 'old sock with Bitcoins'…. 

According to Anycoin Direct, the recently activated whale likely cash out some of its profits while others continue to collect: ''On-chain data from Santiment Bitcoin hodlers holding between 100 and 1.000 BTC have accumulated up to 94.700 Bitcoin worth nearly $XNUMX billion in the past six weeks. During the same period, many small investors reportedly panicked and sold, according to Santiment. Experienced large investors apparently took the opportunity to add to their holdings in anticipation of further price increases.''
