Golden Generation in the Spotlight: An Artistic Ode to Ajax '95
From 30 April to 4 May, RAI Amsterdam transforms into a vibrant art destination during KunstRAI 2025. On the Focus
From 30 April to 4 May, RAI Amsterdam will be transformed into a vibrant art paradise during KunstRAI 2025. On the Focus Amsterdam square, Kahmann Gallery will be presenting a rare exhibition: a portrait series of Ajax icons from the legendary 1994-1995 season, captured through the artistic lens of photographer Wanda Tuerlinckx. An exhibition that celebrates no fewer than four anniversaries in one go…
The 1994-1995 season is considered one of the most successful in Ajax's club history. The talented team won the Champions League and remained undefeated in Europe that year.
Rarely has a football team been captured as quietly as this championship team. No falling tackles, no cheering crowds – but serene portraits of players like Edwin van der Sar, Frank de Boer and Jari Litmanen. Photographed in a studio setting, stripped of the hustle and bustle of the field, the Ajax players of that time take on an almost mythical appearance.
Cultural heritage
Wanda Tuerlinckx's photo series is anything but a nostalgic trip down memory lane. Her work goes beyond sports journalism: it has become cultural heritage. It is not without reason that her works are included in the City Archives and the Rijksmuseum. The portraits form an artistic bridge between two worlds that rarely meet: the world of the sports fan and that of the art lover.
Festive year for the capital
As if that wasn't enough, this exhibition also marks Ajax's 125th anniversary, the 30th anniversary of winning the Champions League and - yes - 40 years of KunstRAI and 750 years of Amsterdam. These milestones will come together in style on the Focus Amsterdam square during KunstRAI 2025.
The exhibition can be seen during KunstRAI 2025, from April 30 to May 4 in the RAI Amsterdam (Parkhal, hall 8). Check out the website for tickets here.
