Gravity – Sand Creatures

"Mine Gravity art project revolves around gravity and the combination of various natural elements in vast landscapes. Weightless, floating in the air and frozen in time. The project focuses on nature in an unexpected way. The idea for my first Sand Creatures series was created in 2013. While my daughter was kicking the sand on the beach, an interesting explosion of grainy sand was created against the sunlight. In a frozen moment I saw the sand take shape. Later I went back to the beach to experiment. I threw the sand into the air with a shovel. Just like clouds in which you can see imaginative shapes, I saw different 'creatures' emerge after a few attempts. It is now my second Sand Creatures series has also been completed, of which this statue is one of them.”

Gravity – Flower Power

“I decided to do mine Gravity to further expand the project. Both of my Sand Creatures series were quite subdued in color. That's why this time I looked for a subject with more color, but also for interesting shapes so that I could apply the same principle as to mine Sand Creatures series. I soon came to flowers. After all, they can be found in many colors, shapes and sizes in the Netherlands. Not only powerful in color, but also in story. The flowers are headed during the peak of their short flowering period, as they are mainly grown for the bulb. The tulip then no longer wastes energy on the flower, allowing the bulb to start growing. Headed at the peak of their strength. My idea for the Flower Power series was born. The titles of the images are linked to the real names of the flower species.”

Silence

“The palpable silence runs like a common thread through my work. Living in a busy city, I long for images without distractions. I find inspiration in simplicity and simplicity. For me, using a minimalist style is essential to capture that distinctive silence. This way I focus on what is really important, without disturbing elements. The silence is now one signature has become within my style. After a series Silence series that I had made during my travels around the world, the idea for one arose Dutch Silence series. Because the Netherlands also has unique and interesting landscapes. With my passion for landscapes, I looked for places with those typical, characteristic Dutch subjects. This picture (The Stare), comes from my second Dutch Silence series and was made in the meadows near Gouda. The cow stared at me for a long time, in silence…”
