Eiffel Tower in Paris grows by six metres

The Eiffel Tower in the French capital Paris has gained six metres. A new antenna was installed to provide the area with DAB+.

View the images.Text: Patrick StofferDe Eiffel Tower was built between 1887 and 1889 on the occasion of the 1889 World Exhibition, exactly 100 years after the French Revolution. The tower, which was originally 312 meters long, was designed by architect Gustave Eiffel. For a long time the structure was the tallest building in the world, but in 1929 it lost the title to the Chrysler Building in New York.

There have been antennas on top of the Eiffel Tower for more than 100 years and it was even the reason for not demolishing the tower in 1910. Over the years, the height of the Eiffel Tower has varied due to the replacement of the various antennas. The tower has now been raised by six meters again by installing a new radio antenna. This has the function of providing the Île-de-France region with DAB+, a digital alternative to FM radio signals. View the unique images of this placement below.
