First electric Ferrari sold for record amount

Ferrari opens a new chapter. The very first example of the fully electric Ferrari Luce sold at auction in California for 40 million dollars, equivalent to approximately 35 million euros. It is the most expensive new car ever to go under the hammer.

With the auctioned example, 'Chassis 0', Ferrari takes its first step into the fully electric era. For the design, the Italian automaker collaborated with Jony Ive, former chief designer at Apple and one of the creative forces behind the iPhone, among other things. The standard Luce carries a starting price of approximately 550,000 euros.

At the unveiling in May, reactions were mixed. Not only the electric drivetrain, but also the striking design and five seats deviate from what is traditionally associated with Ferrari. Interest is not lacking, however: the sales target for 2026 was reached within two months. Demand is particularly strong from China. Ferrari plans to produce only 500 units annually.

The record proceeds also receive a social purpose. The full 40 million dollars goes to educational initiatives of the Ferrari Foundation. The identity of the new owner of Chassis 0 remains unknown for now.

With the record auction, Ferrari's electric course gets a striking start. A new era for the Italian automaker proves particularly attractive to collectors as well.
