Worth a visit: these are Europe's best wine regions

No concrete summer plans yet and an avid wine lover? Europe has countless wine regions that compete among the world's best when it comes to wine. MASTERS lists some of the places. Here you can sip a good glass of fermented grape juice undisturbed all day long. Sounds like music to your ears, doesn't it?

France | Languedoc-Roussillon

Languedoc-Roussillon is the largest wine region in France and stretches along the southeast coast of the Rhône to the Spanish border. The annual production from this region consists of approximately 1.8 billion (!) bottles of wine. That is approximately 30% of the entire wine production from France. Wine has been grown in the region since the fifth century BC, when the Greeks introduced vines here. Red wine and rosé are especially popular in this region. If you are in the area; the liquorice castelnou is highly recommended. You will feel like you are in a medieval atmosphere here and there are plenty of wine tastings organized…

Italy | Sicily

Sun-drenched Sicily has been one of Italy's largest wine regions since time immemorial. Wines that are very characteristic of the island are made from the Malvasia, Nero d'Avola, Novello and Catarratto Bianco grape varieties. Where is the best place to taste these? There are plenty of nice towns on the island, but Cefalù is an absolute must. Here you will find a beautiful white sandy beach, a characteristic center and the Cathedral of Cefalù, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. If you really want to completely immerse yourself in wine, visit the wineries Planet, Barone di Villagrande en Agricola Occhipinti are definitely worth a visit. 

Spain | Castilia-La Mancha 

The Castilla-La Mancha area is relatively young and extends across the entire southern half of Spain's Central Meseta. The wine region covers a total of 80.000 square kilometers and is responsible for a total of 50% of the total Spanish wine production. The plantings at this location mainly consist of the white Airén. The second grape that is mainly found in the higher areas is Tempranillo. Some wineries that are definitely worth a visit in the region: aldonza, Vega Tolosa en Finca Rio Negro.

Portugal | Setúbal 

The Setúbal wine region is located south of Lisbon. The place to be for entertaining wine stories and traditions. Wine from this region often wins prizes and is therefore often labeled prestigious. The presence of the Atlantic Ocean, the two rivers Tagus and Sado in combination with the poor but calcareous sandy soil, create a very special climate. You can make fresh white wines and powerful, fruity red wines with it. Some wineries where it is very nice to stay include: Bacalhoa Vinhos de Portugal, José Maria de Fonseca en Adega de Palmela.
