How to look impeccable this summer
Summer chic, Cocktail, Smart-casual, Tenue de Ville: perhaps familiar terms for the avid party goer, perhaps less so for others. MASTERS highlights some of the different dress codes so that you are sure to look on point this summer.
Summer Chic
As the term probably suggests, Summer Chic is a dress code in which summer clothing is given a chic touch. Bright colors, pastel colors, but also summery prints can be worn well. And if you do go for color; the color that appeared at almost every fashion house this year is red. And that is to say, bright red. As a woman, choose a summer dress, jumpsuit or a sophisticated trouser suit to look businesslike touch to indicate. However, a long skirt with a jacket is also suitable. For men, the dress code includes a suit. Finish it off with dress shoes, such as brogues or loafers. But neat sneakers are also among the options. And to be completely there as a man on trend to catch up; This summer the color palette for men consists of earth tones such as: brown, terra, sand and green. A linen suit in one of these colors is therefore very appropriate.
Tenue de Ville
Tenue de Ville is one of the oldest dress codes and literally means “clothes you wear when you go to town”. However, wait a while before grabbing your favorite walking shoes, because the translation of this dress code no longer fully covers it. As far as the basics are concerned, the outfit is subtle and minimalist. With this dress code, the trend color red is actually a less good idea. Strictly speaking, with Tenue de Ville you wear a skirt or dress that falls to or below the knees. Less strictly speaking, the length of the dress can be slightly shorter, but ensure a balance by combining this with long sleeves. You can think of a beautiful A-line dress or a wrap dress. It is better to leave striking jewelry or accessories in the closet. The same applies to men as to women; keep your outfit subtle and use calm colors. For example, you can go for a suit combined with a shirt and tie. Nowadays, especially in the Netherlands, things are a bit freer. You can also combine smart trousers with a shirt and a jacket. The advice is to form one whole and think in the same color tones when you combine. The rule of thumb is: the more formal the event, the darker the outfit. In terms of shoes, a neat low shoe with a lace or buckle is recommended. Or a loafer in suede or leather.
Cocktail (with a sunny touch)
If you see ''Cocktail'' on the invitation, you are expected to dress neatly and festively. A prom dress is a bit exaggerated, but at the same time wearing jeans is absolute not done. The golden mean is a stylish dress. If you prefer not to wear a dress, a chic pantsuit is also suitable. Striking jewelry and make-up are allowed, because you can go all out with this dress code. To be completely in line with the latest trend, you can go for a dress with ruffles, fringes and other frills. For the sunny touch, it is best to choose a dress in a summer color or print. For men, Cocktail has a dress code where you are quite free. This way you can go all out with colors and prints within the dress code because it is a festive dress code. Keep it classy, though. The absolute trend for men this summer is the linen shirt. Combine this with smart trousers and a jacket you're good to go.
