The culinary world has spoken, and the rankings for The World's 50 Best Restaurants 2025 have been announced. From a Nikkei temple in Peru to a gastronomic fire festival in Spain, these are the restaurants that every foodie needs to experience at least once in their life.
Maido | Peru
Chef Mitsuharu “Micha” Tsumura was born in Lima, but his roots lie in Osaka, a combination that forms the basis for his masterful Nikkei cuisine. After culinary training in the US, he specialized in sushi and izakaya in Japan, before returning to Peru. There, in 2009, he opened Maido: a restaurant where Japanese techniques and Peruvian flavors merge into an exceptional gastronomic experience.
After coming in at number five last year, Maido takes the crown this year. The restaurant has since become a true icon of international gastronomy. The name 'Maido' comes from a Japanese greeting - the first thing you hear when you step inside - and reflects the warm hospitality of the team. More than fifteen years after its opening, Maido remains true to its philosophy: the best local ingredients, seasonal refinement and a menu of over ten courses that is both culturally rich and innovatively modern.
Asador Etxebarri | Spain
At number two we find this Basque jewel where cooking with fire is elevated to an art form. Chef Victor Arguinzoniz knows how to transform even the simplest ingredients, think tomatoes or shrimps, into unprecedented explosions of flavor. Pure simplicity, brilliantly executed.
Quintonil | Mexico
Avant-garde Mexican: Quintonil is the setting for the groundbreaking cuisine of chef Jorge Vallejo and the exceptional hospitality of his wife Alejandra Flores. Focusing on fresh, local ingredients and traditional Mexican flavors and techniques, woven into modern preparations, the restaurant is fast becoming a classic.
Diverxo | Spain
This is not a dinner, this is a dream. Chef Dabiz Muñoz lets you get lost in a theatrical, boundary-pushing dining experience full of avant-garde twists at Diverxo. Nothing is what it seems, and that is exactly the point…
Alchemist | Denmark
Art, science and gastronomy merge at Alchemist. Chef Rasmus Munk presents an immersive 'holistic dining experience' with no less than 50 courses. Every bite is a philosophical question, every dish a story.
