This palace asks: do you dare to look?
Flore Zoé's complete photographic oeuvre consists of carefully staged images that expose human relationships in all their complexity. Over the years, she has explored identity, sexuality, nature, sustainability, and social inequality, always driven by the same fundamental question: what connects us, and what becomes visible when difference is not smoothed over, but rather acknowledged?
On display are iconic works such as Spirit (2008), shot in the abandoned Military Hospital in Antwerp, with its peeling walls as a charged backdrop, and Reflections of History (2013), photographed in the oldest indoor swimming pool in the Netherlands. Also remarkable is that for the first time a prototype of The Black Tear is displayed in a mirror room of the palace.
The grand finale and highlight of the exhibition is the new series. We Who See Each Other: six powerful works about power, peace, justice, recognition, freedom, and courage. The series was photographed in normally inaccessible rooms of Soestdijk Palace, creating a layered dialogue between image, space, and history. We Who See Each Other It was created in collaboration with Maya Meijer-Bergmans, who acquired the estate with her husband in 2017 to restore and redevelop it into a place for culture, innovation, and meeting. This exhibition aligns seamlessly with that.
SYM-ME-TRY is more than an aesthetic experience. It is a moral proposition, even an invitation: do we dare to truly see each other? An exceptional exhibition in an exceptional location. Go see it.
