This is: the new most expensive car in the world

At 23 million euros, the Rolls-Royce Boat Tail is the new most expensive car in the world. The car is the successor to the 10 million euro Sweptail from 2017. Car fans can take heart, as only one of the Sweptail was made and a total of three of the new Boat Tail will come out. So there will be only a few people in the world who will have the privilege of driving the new car, who these are remains to be seen. However, many arrows do point to a well-known couple from the music industry...Text: Fleur de Jong

The owner

The Telegraph thinks it knows that Jay-Z is the new owner of this unique Boat Tail. The custom-made car was inspired by J-Class yachts and Boat Tail Rolls-Royces from the 1920s and 1930s. Back then, the hull shapes of sailboats were put directly on wheels. Things are a lot more complicated now, however. The British automaker reportedly spent four years developing the new Boat Tail.

Although the Boat Tail is based on the Phantom four years time is not crazy when you consider that it took the automaker eight months alone to adapt the chassis to the proportions of the Boat Tail that is 5.8 meters long. The car also gets 1813 new, custom-made parts. Yet the Rolls-Royce DNA has been prominently retained. The Rolls' exterior is finished in a special shade of blue, the customer's favorite color, with metal and inlaid crystal flakes. The hand-painted blue color blends into black on the hood. This color scheme also continues into the interior.

Special extra

As much attention has been paid to the interior as to the exterior. Indeed, the inside is covered in immaculate leather in a shade of blue with a slight sheen and contrasting black. The leather comes from cows from the alpine pastures of Bavaria. The dials of the control panel come from high-end watches. Rolls-Royce worked with Swiss watchmaker Bovet to design two custom-made watches in parallel with the Boat Tail. Each of the two watches can be taken off the owner's wrist and inserted into a special opening in the dashboard to serve as a Boat Tail clock in this way.

Surely the highlight of the car is the rear end. The tail, made of wood, slopes downward and is somewhat reminiscent of the rear deck of a luxury yacht. At the push of a button, a double champagne cooler emerges that can hold four bottles of Armand de Brignac. On the other side is a custom-made picnic area with temperature-controlled elements that can keep food warm. Two pop out cocktail tables elegantly swivel outward when the rear deck is opened. As icing on the cake, there is also a parasol hidden in the rear deck. A small breeze need not disturb the picnic, however, because Rolls-Royce tested the parasol in a wind tunnel, so it can stand up to a beating.
