Movies are fun, but admit it: we also watch for the outfits. The red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival is all about glitter, glamour and, as of this year, a few more rules. No more see-through dresses, no sneakers, no more trains that stretch for meters. But that didn't stop these stars from stealing the show in style.
Rihanna
Rihanna paid tribute to her new role as Smurfette in her turquoise silk Alaïa gown. The cut-outs, subtle sparkle and visible baby bump made the look extra special. Diamond earrings, a matching clutch and stilettos in the same colour completed the look. At her side: A$AP Rocky in a classic Saint Laurent suit.
Natalie Portman
Natalie Portman once again enchanted Cannes in Dior. This time with a modern interpretation of the iconic 'Mexico model' from the 1951 winter haute couture collection. No less than 700 hours of craftsmanship went into the creation, of which 450 hours were spent on the hand-embroidered crystal canopy by Atelier Safrane. Portman completed the look with a 10-carat diamond necklace, matching ring and earrings by Tiffany & Co. An ode to her love of vintage couture and her long-standing relationship with the house of Dior.
Irina Shayk
Irina Shayk hit the red carpet in a striking black strapless mermaid gown from Elie Saab's Haute Couture Spring 2025 collection. The dress was richly adorned with crystals and feathers, and was paired with sheer gloves. Her wet-look hairstyle and red lips gave the look a subtly dramatic, almost classic feel.
Cate Blanchett
Cate Blanchett closed the festival in style in a custom-made black halter dress by Louis Vuitton. Made from recycled fabrics, the dress played on the scarf trend, but in a refined way: with pleated lace details that gave the silhouette an almost sculptural look.
Angelina Jolie
Angelina Jolie stepped out in a champagne-colored ball gown by Brunello Cucinelli: understated, but anything but boring. The subtle sequins and flared skirt gave the look just the right amount of sparkle, while nude pumps and soft makeup kept the whole thing stylishly balanced.
