The Free West, Amsterdam

The Westerpark in Amsterdam transforms every year into a liberation festival The Free West. On May 5 from 12.00:23.00 noon there will be a wide range of (live) music, food trucks, lectures, talk shows and much more. This year the site will be filled with seven stages with various DJs and bands who are safely dry in tents, so that any bad weather does not get the chance. You can celebrate freedom here until XNUMX p.m. and admission is free.

May 5 concert

This year, singer Karsu and writer and radio maker Frits Spits will present the May 5 concert on the Amstel in Amsterdam. Together they will connect the performances through personal stories and music. In addition to presenting, Karsu will also perform during the concert. The thirtieth edition of the concert takes place in front of the Royal Theater Carré and can be followed from the quay around the Magere Brug. Can't be there? The concert will be broadcast live on NPO1 from 20.30:XNUMX PM.

May 5 lecture

Every year the kick-off for the country's May 5 celebrations takes place in a different province. This year the fair is for the province of Limburg, which organizes the program around the May 4 lecture together with the National Committee 5 and 5 May, the municipality of Roermond and the Limburg Liberation Festival. This year the lecture will be given by Lilian Gonçalves-Ho Kang You, lawyer, human rights activist and former state councilor. This will be broadcast by NOS on NPO 12 from 1 noon.

After the lecture, the Liberation Fire will be lit at the Limburg Liberation Festival in Roermond. At the same time, it is also lit at thirteen other Liberation Festivals, as the starting signal for all celebrations throughout the country. So there is always a Liberation Festival coming your way.

Liberation doll Haarlem

The Netherlands has a total of 14 national Liberation Festivals: at least one can be found in every province. This has also been celebrated in Haarlem since 1980, making it the most famous and oldest in the country. In addition to the impressive musical programming, the theme of freedom is of course central to the festival. With, among other things, the liberation fire and the 5for5 moment, Bevrijdingspop gives substance to the message: We create freedom together.
