The CD: do you remember it? Bang & Olufsen recently launched the Beosystem 9000c, a classic with a modern twist. The design brings the magic of the shiny disk full of music back to life. Only 200 copies of the exclusive edition are available worldwide. During MASTERS SUMMER EDITION one of them will be on display in De L'Europe Amsterdam…
Following the success of the Beogram 4000c in 2020, Bang & Olufsen recently announced the second project in the Recreated Classics series. The Beosystem 9000c combines a fully restored Beosound 9000 CD player from the 90s with the brand's modern Beolab 28 speakers, for a powerful listening experience.
Products that stand the test of time
“With the Recreated Classics series, we demonstrate how Bang & Olufsen's unique capabilities in sound, design and craftsmanship create sustainable, circular products. We want to demonstrate that a product with a second life can be just as attractive as a new product, and that a high-end item like the Beosound 9000 does not have to have an end date,” says Mads Kogsgaard Hansen, Head of Product Circularity & Portfolio Planning at Bang & Olufsen.
To create the new showpiece, Bang & Olufsen collected 200 of the original Beosound 9000 CD players and brought them back to the factory in Struer, Denmark, where they were originally made in 1996. The CD players were disassembled and thoroughly inspected by a team of skilled technicians, including many of the same colleagues who worked on the system in the 90s.
Close relative
Based on the original design, the design team has inverted the deep black and natural aluminum finishes of the original Beosound 9000. Tiina Kierysch, Head of Design, explains: “We wanted to enhance the graphic side of the Beosound 9000 while maintaining the integrity of the original design. For this reason, we opted for a Cosmic Black finish on the aluminum back plate, so that the CDs look even more like works of art. This also creates a sharp contrast with the aluminum on the control panel, providing a bold and modern look while nodding to the 90s aesthetic. The result is timeless and shows that although the two products were designed in different decades, they are closely related through the use of colours, materials and finishes.”
