Amsterdam celebrates 750 years: what not to miss this month
Amsterdam is celebrating its 750th anniversary, which calls for a year full of special festivities. The city is buzzing with events that bring together the past, present and future. From ice sculptures to exclusive exhibitions – there is plenty to experience this month. These are the highlights to note in your diary.
Amsterdam immortalized in ice
In the Central Market Hall, Amsterdam is spectacularly frozen in time. Art Below Zero, Europe's largest ice sculpture exhibition, brings the city's history to life with breathtaking ice creations. Stroll past frozen versions of iconic sites like the Skinny Bridge and the Rijksmuseum, and admire artworks inspired by historical figures like Anne Frank and Johnny Jordaan.
The exhibition can be seen until March 2, 2025.
Navid Nuur in the Old Church
Artist Navid Nuur transforms the Oude Kerk into a sensory discovery. With light, sound and natural materials, he lets you look at this centuries-old building in a completely new way. One of the most special elements? A series of one hundred city vases, made with Amsterdam raw materials, which will not all have disappeared from the church until 2125. Every year, one vase is auctioned. After one hundred years, when all the vases have left the church, When Doubt Turns into Destiny will be completed.
The exhibition can be admired on February 6, 7, 8 and 9.
Johnny Jordaan & Ramses Shaffy in one performance
What happens when Johnny Jordaan and Ramses Shaffy meet? In this musical performance by Amsterdams Allooi, the lives of these two icons come together. Not a standard biography, but a moving and sometimes funny journey along their successes, dreams and the soul of Amsterdam.

The iconic summer event of the year
On 19, 20 and 21 June, the iconic De L'Europe Amsterdam will be transformed into a true fairytale hotel for MASTERS SUMMER EDITION, the summer sister of MASTERS EXPO. For three days, the entire hotel and the terrace on the Amstel will herald the summer and 750 years of Amsterdam will be celebrated in style. Please note: by invitation only.
