MOØDE

In his new photo book MOØDE, Anton Corbijn presents images in which he explores the crossover between photography and the fashion world. “I usually photograph personalities, but fashion is increasingly part of these photos. We all decide in the morning what we will wear that day, even if it is just a hat or a black T-shirt.” With MOØDE, Corbijn proves that fashion is everywhere and at any time of the day. The photos he took of Alexander McQueen, Tom Waits, Kate Moss, Björk and Clint Eastwood, among others, have now acquired distinctive status. Partly thanks to his past as visual director behind Depeche Mode and his many years of collaboration with U2, Corbijn has left a mark on the way people view contemporary culture. More than 150 portraits are shown in this book, many of them for the first time.

A labor of love

You won't get bored of this hardcover of no less than 450 pages. With the title of the book, design curators and authors Lidewij Edelkoort and Philip Fimmano refer to their craftsmanship, which for them consists of pride and satisfaction. This book consists of 12 themes in which current materials and techniques are extensively presented. Their love for the planet and nature runs like a common thread A labor of love. It provides a glimpse into the future of how responsible production can be achieved. It also provides insight into how designers obtain materials and how certain products can be reused, such as waste and looms. Leading the world to a better future and changing the world with philosophies is what the authors strive for.

Beyond the west

Beyond the West travels through Asia, Africa and America to clarify how local architects respond to changes in the world. Western architecture has largely dominated the built world in recent decades. Recently, architectural firms from non-Western countries have gained local and global recognition. These agencies face challenges competing against the backdrop of fast-growing cities, environmental demands, changing societies and climate, and the rising economy. The local architects often find solutions for local requirements, such as sustainability, transportation, migration and building materials. In Mexico, for example, architects are working with indigenous tribes to build social housing that can be assembled in one week. While in Namibia a lodge is being designed in a nature reserve where local birds can breed.
